BRANDON ROSS — worldwide music producer, recording engineer, songwriter (aka Plan B ‘85), and founder of 1985 Music — has built a career defined by versatility, creativity, and an undeniable ear for hits.
That journey started early. At just 13, Ross recorded his first demo and began producing and writing his own material, inspired by pioneers like Queen Latifah, Naughty by Nature and Kriss Kross. By adulthood, he co-founded Time is Money Entertainment with Will Brown and Daniel Thomas, producing and writing for a wide range of artists before ultimately stepping out to create his own path.
In 2008, Ross launched 1985 Music, a production company that has since grown into a global brand with an expansive catalog of thousands of beats. His debut EP, The B-Side, released under his imprint, earned critical acclaim and has surpassed 3 million streams — establishing him as a creative force while opening doors to even greater opportunities.
From there, Ross expanded into licensing and placement, with music featured across major networks including MTV, VH1, Spike TV and OWN, as well as shows like Guy Code, Basketball Wives, and Black Ink Crew: Chicago. In 2022, his production of Dominique JL’s song “Good and Bad” landed a placement on All the Queen’s Men (BET+) and his music was also featured in the ending credits of Comedy Central/HBO Max’s Southside with Mason Parker’s single “Flex.”
Ross's film and television work is equally wide-ranging. After helming post-sound and mixing for the 2016 film King of Newark — starring Clifton Powell and Omar Gooding — Ross went on to score the award-winning short Best of Two Evils. In 2025, he and Will Brown collaborated as composers on Parnielle Walker’s short film Love Is Blind, starring Brandon Fobbs, Ivonah Erskine, and Melvin Jackson Jr. That film earned numerous honors this year: Best Short Film (The People’s Film Festival), Best Actress (Diversity in Cannes), and Best Romantic Comedy (Beyond Hollywood International).
Ross’s television scoring credits include serving as lead composer for Season 5 of Tyler Perry’s Sistas (BET) in 2022, with contributions extending through Seasons 6–8, and providing additional music for Seasons 3 and 4 of Tyler Perry’s Zatima (BET+), spanning 2024–2025. He also mastered soundtracks for feature films such as Papillon and Final Portrait.
Beyond the studio, Ross is dedicated to mentorship, guiding emerging producers and songwriters and sharing his expertise in sync licensing. He has served as a speaker and panelist at NAMM 2024 and continues to inspire young creators through music programs nationwide.
Looking ahead, Ross remains committed to pushing creative boundaries — blending sharp production, dynamic songwriting, and sonic innovation to shape the soundscape of today and tomorrow.
